Popular Mechanics Article

Lookie lookie, we got a nice little write-up in Popular Mechanics this week:

And when I say "we," I don't mean The Royal We. I've been getting all kinds of help from my friends on this project, and anybody who participates (including leaving a comment for the DOI, using the #27Monuments hashtag, or just helping to spread the work) I consider them a part of this. We're it together, this land is your land, this land is my land, yada yada yada.

I really need to catch up on sleep. That's been the toughest part of this whole thing so far. Working on it.

Okay, g'night.

An Early Blow for Bears Ears National Monument

Well, this is bad. The same day I hit the road to begin this project Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke recommended to President Trump that Bears Ears National Monument in Utah be scaled back. While the public comment period is still open for the other 26 monuments, Bears Ears was a priority for this governmental reevaluation and its abbreviated comment period ended in late May.

This was not unexpected, but it is still a major blow for the conservationists and indigenous tribes who worked hard for many years to gain protection for this sacred land (home to more than 100,000 archeological sites) under National Monument status. The video above is from the Washington Post. You can read the full article here and visit the Bears Ears Coalition to find out what more you can do.
